Work in Progress
My bookshelves are overdue for an update and will soon transform from forgettable to the focus of the room!

I've had these bookshelves for about 14 years, but throughout updates to my style and home, they've outgrown their appeal.
Instead of buying all new shelves, I looked to Pinterest for some inspiration. My plan is to repaint, change the orientation of the shelves for more visual appeal, and update the furniture feet to match the new style.
Every furniture project starts of with sanding.
I disassembled all of the shelves and hardware and added a coat of primer. I'm only painting the outside surfaces of the bookshelf because I have a plan for the inside.

I chose this amazing nuetral green from Benjamin Moore called, Desert Twilight with grayish tones that will look amazing with some of the other artifacts that I use to decorate the room. I am obsessed with this color.
For the interior, I chose a warm wood-grain vinyl to line all visible sides of the bookcase. In the interest of saving money, I went with this method instead of purchasing much more expensive wood panels. The vinyl has a slight texture to it and was easy to apply and don't feel like it compromised the overall look of the bookcases at all.
So far, these bookshelves are coming together just like I imagined. For the shelves, I designed a different arrangement to get away from the rigid boring grid of squares and rectangles. I found myself using geometry I swore in high school that I would never use again to calculate angles and degrees to arrange shelves in a more interesting arrangement. I had a local woodworker cut some shelves for me using my calculations and working on installing them as we speak.
This project is ongoing so come back for updates!
